White Spots on Throat have an unravelling effect one has to deal with. The main reason for this is that doctors fond it difficult to diagnose and on number of occasions a cause for a cause of embarrassment, since these white lumps (smelly might I add!) may act as nodes or centres for bacteria, hence the garlic and unpleasant odour. One can however differentiate the different causes of white spots on throat as illustrated below:

White Spots on Throat: Causes

First Cause of White Spots on Throat: Herpes
A viral infection that affects our mucus membranes of the body occurring in the mouth or vagina. Oral herpes may however extend to the throat and come out as white spots in throat. Oral sex with someone with herpes may also cause this phenomenon. Small blisters look white and with time burst leaving painful scars in the throat.

Second Cause of White Spots on Throat:
One of the most common reasons for the presence of white spots in throat is candidiasis. This is a type of yeast infection affecting several parts of the oral cavity as we know it. This affects the top of the tongue but this sometimes spreads to the throat leading to white sports on throat. This type of yeast infection is quite rare though we need mention that the spread of infection to the throat happens normally with those with a weak immune system.

Third Cause of White Spots on Throat: Tonsiloliths or Tonsil Stones
Clusters of calcium deposits, better known as tonsil stones, occur on the surface of the tonsils leading to white spots on throat and tonsils. These smelly little buggers may be small or large and at times, they may be so big that they cause difficulty in swallowing. Thus these white spots on tonsils are a result of calcium deposits in the crypts of tonsils (cryptic tonsils) as these are the locations that can easily lodge such calcareous deposits. This is the most common cause of White Spots on Tonsils. It is easily identifies by the foul smell that comes from the mouth which is often embarrassing.
